The heavy showers and gloomy weather at the Little Athletics NSW State Championships couldn't stop Amelia Morgan and Venita Mailei from shining, with both girls claiming medals at the meet.

A new personal best of (10.37m) by Amelia in U11s Girls Shot Put on Saturday had the Campbelltown Collegians athlete sitting in 3rd place going into the final. However she was unfortunately overtaken in the final rounds of the competition and had to settle for fourth place.

On Sunday, Amelia put the disappointment of missing out on a medal in the shot put behind her when she bettered her personal best four times on the way to claiming the Silver Medal in the U11's Girls Discus with a new PB of 29.70m.  Finishing the meet with new personal best in both events and winning her first state medal was a great way to top off what has been a remarkable season for the youngster.

Fellow squad member Venita Mailei had to deal with niggling injuries as well as the gloomy weather, however she fought on to bring home two medals from the championships meet.

Venita claimed the Bronze in the U17's Girls Discus with a best of (39.72m) and she also claimed the Bronze in the U17's Girls Shot Put with (13.96m)

Congratulations to all our squad members who competed at these championships! Making it to this level as a young athlete is an awesome achievement in itself. We had a number of top (8) finishes and some even threw new personal best. MTS is extremely proud that you gave it your all.

Venita, along with her fellow squad members Nicole Pili, Ellie Dimoulas, Breanna Griffiths, Unitty Ta'uo and Jayden Duncum will now begin their final preparations' for the Australian Junior Championships commencing on Sunday March 26, 2017.
