HAMMER thrower Taylor McNamara, from Glenfield, added one more medal to her enormous collection earned last year, with the 2013 Macarthur Chronicle Young Achiever of the Year award.

McNamara took out the honour at the NewsLocal Junior Sports Star awards presentation event at Homebush on Wednesday. The 14-year-old was one of the best hammer throwers in her age group last year.

Her incredible season began at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships in Perth last March, where she won a gold medal in the under-15s hammer throw final.

The Campbelltown Collegians Athletics Club junior continued her top form at the NSW All-comers meet, before claiming gold at the NSW All-Schools with a record and personal best throw of 48.03m.

Coach David Prior said: “I’m really proud of the season Taylor had – the gold medals and PBs were a product of her hard training.”
