LP Champion 1

PRESTONS resident Rhiannon Griffiths, better known as the pocket rocket, has powered to some impressive athletic results in recent times.

The seven-year-old won two gold medals at the recent South West Regional's Little Athletics Championships at Campbelltown

Not only did she win gold in the under-eight discus she also broke the regional record by 16 centimetres to record a new personal best throw of 16.01 metres.

Rhiannon then backed it up the next day to win gold in the under-eight shot put event throwing 5.29 metres against girls predominantly older than her.

It follows on from her success at the Central West Zone meet in December where she also won gold in her two favourite events.

Rhiannon, who trains twice a week with the South West Sydney Throws Squad, is in her second year of Little Athletics with the Prestons Robins Little Athletics Club.

She is coached by David Prior at the South West Sydney Throws Squad.

"I'm very proud of myself I didn't expect to throw that far so I was excited," the Dalmeny Public School pupil said

"My next goal is to throw 18 metres in my favourite event of discus."
