ASHLEIGH Mumberson led a Campbelltown trio to a medal trifecta at the Australian under-20 and under-23 athletics championships in Adelaide recently. Mumberson won gold in the under-20 hammer throw with a mighty 49.56m.

Team-mate Melissa Hilder won silver (48.99m) and Melissa Prior rounded out the Macarthur area whitewash (47.65m).

Other Macarthur area success stories in Adelaide included a fourth place to 13-year-old Abby Moroney in the under-20 discus with a personal best of 41.48m, Karl Newham, who recently returned to the sport after several years on the sidelines, was fifth (fourth Australian) with a personal best of 43.62m in the under-23 hammer throw, and Melissa Prior won bronze in the under-20 shot put (11.35m).

The throwers are coached by David Prior at Camden. * Melissa Prior and Kearns athlete Todd Wakefield have been selected in Athletics Australia’s under-19 talent squad. The 21-person squad will attend training and development camps and receive mentoring from current and past Australian champions.
