Discus Dynamo Taylor McNamara

YOUNG Glenfield athlete Taylor McNamara and Macarthur Chronicle Junior Sports Star nominee sprung to prominence last year when she broke the Ingleburn Little Athletics Club discus record for her under-11 age group.

The record had stood for 27 years, and Taylor’s determination all season to claim it for herself convinced coach David Prior the youngster had not just the talent but the commitment to make along-term impact in the sport.

Coach Prior nominated Taylor, 12, for the Rebel-sponsored junior sporting awards by summing up her progress: “since joining my squad around 18 months ago, Taylor has improved her personal best distance by over 15m. I’m very proud of her.”

The young athlete built on last season’s milestones by creating several more this year. She moved up an age group and again claimed the club’s discus record. It had been unbeaten since 1993.Prior said Taylor hit her straps at the recent NSW Little Athletics State Championships. “Taylor put together her most consistent comp to date, producing five throws over the 32m-mark, breaking her own club record again and finished with a new personal best of 32.89m,’’ Prior said. “It was an improvement of just over two metres.’’
