On day one of the 2018 NSW All Schools Championships it was hammer time and our girls did themselves and our squad proud by nailing new personal best on their way to claiming medals.

In the 13yrs Girls Hammer Throw, Unitty Ta’uo smashed her personal best of (37.44m) with her first throw of the competition. The Airds High School student hurled the hammer out to an impressive 40.89m to claim the Gold Medal at her first NSW All Schools Championships.

Fellow squad member, Amelia Morgan also threw a new personal best of 36.29m to claim the Silver Medal in the 13yrs Hammer Throw. The Hoxton Park High youngster was in sizzling form producing some big throws early in the competition around the 40m mark, however unfortunately for Amelia she foot fowled those throws.

In the 14 years Hammer Throw, National Champion, Breanna Griffiths claimed her 3rd NSW All Schools Championships title & her 5th Major title in succession, throwing a new personal best of 47.21m on her way to claiming the Gold Medal.

The Casula High student has been in outstanding form of late at training and was hoping to better the meet record of 48.03m currently held by former squad member Taylor McNamara. Unfortunately for Bre she had been feeling unwell on the day and although she showed a great amount of courage, she fell just short of the mark.

All 3 girls have qualified for the 2018 Australian All Schools Championships to be held in Cairns, in December.

Also competing for the final time at NSW All Schools Championships was squad member Venita Mailei. The Airds High student was a dual Gold Medallist at these championships last season and she didn’t disappoint, adding another two titles to her name by winning the Gold Medal in the 17 years girls Discus with a best of 42.85m, and taking out the girls 17 years Shot Put with a best of 14.98m.

In the past three seasons at this event, Venita has won a total of six medals, which include five Gold & one Bronze!

Venita has also qualified for the 2018 Australian All Schools Championships in both Discus and Shot Put.
