NATALIE Prior was after a big performance at her last Australian All Schools Athletics Championships - and she went out on a long note.

The Kearns hammer thrower showed her potential when she broke her previous best distance (51.96m) and meet record (51.51m) to win the under-18s national title. Her 52.38m throw puts her in good stead for the coming Australian athletics season.

Prior's father David said the 17-year-old was the dominant under-20 and under-17 hammer thrower in Australia. "She won both the under-17 and -20 national all schools titles last year and followed it up with the Australian under-20 title in Adelaide," he said.

Prior's younger sister Melissa, 14, won bronze in the under-15 hammer throw (38.25m). Campbelltown teammate Ashleigh Mumberson won gold in the under-17 hammer throw, with a personal best 46.08m, the first time she has won a medal in three national all schools outings. Ambarvale 16-year-old Melissa Hilder was second to Mumberson, with 43.70m. All four girls have qualified for the national under-20 championships in Hobart in February.
