GLENFIELD hammer thrower Taylor McNamara has put the heat on in the 2013 Macarthur Chronicle Junior Sports Star competition with her gold-medal form.
The 13-year-old threw a personal best of 41.40m en route to a gold medal in the under-15s hammer throw final of the Australian Junior Athletics Championships held in Perth last month.
Campbelltown Collegians throwing coach David Prior said McNamara had to shake some nerves in the final.
“She was drawn last and that made her a little nervous, but she used the adrenaline and threw her best,” Prior said.
Preparation for her age group included a step up to the under-17s national heats, where McNamara threw a 39.97m and 40.22m to finish in fifth place out of 17 girls.
“She qualified for the under-17s and it a was tactical decision to warm her up for her own age group. The age gap didn’t faze her and she threw a personal best,” Prior said.
McNamara took her gold-medal form to the recent NSW Allcomers meet, where she dismantled her personal best with a whopping 43.34m throw en route to a 5m victory in the event.
